These awards recognize an outstanding contribution to the global health community @ Dalhousie through:
- Promotion, development and enhancement of global health @ Dalhousie
- Demonstrated leadership in global health
- Practical work experience with marginalized communities
- Engagement in global health research (faculty and resident only)
- Mentorship in global health (faculty and resident only)
The Global Health Office currently coordinates three Global Health Awards; the Dr. Ronald Stewart Student Award,
the Dr. TJ Jock Murray Resident Award and the. Dr. John Savage Memorial Award for Faculty.
Dr. Ronald Stewart Student Award
The Dr. Ron Stewart Award for Student Leadership in Global Health is given to a medicine, dentistry or health professions student who has demonstrated leadership in global health and a commitment to improving the health of marginalized communities during their time at Dalhousie.
This award honours Dr. Stewart’s personal, professional and educational support and dedication to global health and the advancement of social capital worldwide. Dr. Stewart, a former provincial Minister of Health and Order of Canada recipient, has been enriching students' experiences at the Dalhousie Medical School for many years as a popular and accomplished educator, Director of the Medical Humanities program and as a key champion for global health education experiences for medical students.

Dr. TJ Jock Murray Resident Award

Dr. Jock Murray Award in Global Health |
The Dr. TJ Jock Murray Award in Global Health is in recognition of a Resident at the Dalhousie Medical School who demonstrates an ongoing commitment and leadership in global health.
This award is named for Dr. Murray who is the former Dean of Dalhousie Medical School and an advocate for the values within global health.
The award will consist of
- A certificate and plaque
- A cash prize of $1000
- An opportunity for the recipient to present their work at the Global Health Lecture Series.

Dr. John Savage Memorial Award for Faculty
The Dr. John Savage Memorial Award in Global Health recognizes an outstanding humanitarian contribution to global health by a Dalhousie Medical School faculty member.
Dr. Savage, a former mayor of Dartmouth, premier of Nova Scotia and family physician, was a champion of the need to promote healthy communities worldwide, and had a long-standing commitment to global health projects in Africa with the Nova Scotia Gambia Association and other organizations, and served on the advisory committee of the Global Health Office at Dalhousie University.

Call for Nominations
now open!
Deadline: March 30, 2012
NOMINATIONS:
- Self-nominations are accepted but require an additional letter from an external nominator.
- To nominate a colleague please provide a brief letter of nomination (2 pages max.) outlining the individual’s contribution to global health, leadership and commitment to improved health. (please include the signature of the nominator as well as the nominee’s resume/CV.)
- Nominations will close on Friday March 30, 2012 at 4:00pm
- Letters of nomination should be sent to the Global Health Office: gho@dal.ca
